We have a fantastic Bourgogne Blanc from Vincent and Sophie Morey that we have just tasted. Vincent Morey uses four different plots for their Bourgogne Blanc, one just outside of Puligny Montrachet, another outside of Chassagne Montrachet, and two more in Santenay. The average age of the vineyards is over 25 years, and the soils of these sites are predominately clay. Vincent ferments ½ the crop in oak barrels, with about 20% being new, and the other ½ sees stainless steel tanks only. Both portions get blended in a tank before bottling to settle, then are bottled un-fined and unfiltered.
This expressive and well-balanced white Burgundy possesses beautiful aromas of stone fruit blossoms, apple, pear, lemon curd, liquid minerals, and a touch of dried herbs. The palate is fresh and lively, very well balanced, and with good length. It is just a lovely glass of white Burgundy to be enjoyed now, and you can keep it for a few years, no problem. It's the ultimate cellar saver perfect for new and old-world Chardonnay lovers and is highly recommended!
